Dry Needling

Dry Needling Benefits:

The technique is performed using a “dry” needle, meaning there is no medication (or injection) used during treatment. A thin, sterile needle is inserted into the skin into areas of the muscle known as trigger points.

Trigger points—often referred to as knots—are taut bands of muscle that are frequently tender to the touch and can even refer pain to other areas. As the needle enters the trigger point, it releases the knot. This release helps to increase range of motion and improve (or decrease) pain.

What kind of needles are used?

Dry needling involves a thin filiform needle that penetrates the skin and stimulates underlying myofascial trigger points and muscular and connective tissues. The needle allows a physical therapist to target tissues that are not manually palpable.
